La Vela Complex Varese

CLEAR VOLUMES AND SHARP CUTTINGS FOR THIS BUILDING THAT WILL MARKS THE ENTRANCE IN VARESE.

The complex is located on an area of grand visibility at the end of the Milano-Varese motorway, close to the railway station and the historic center. The buildings adopt a strong contemporary style: pure volumes, excavated openings that firmly define the relationship between the subject (continuous surfaces with plaster) and the space, which is defined by transparency (glass and shading).

The plot is east-west facing. The buildings include a residential tower to the East from which a bridge is grafted, connecting it to the two west blocks, which are joined by a solar greenhouse. This volume takes the form of a transparent sail. As well as contributing to the heating in winter, it is the welcoming foyer and holds the spiral staircase that leads to the office area. A careful bioclimatic study influenced the design of operational areas to the South, concentrating horizontal connections to the North, and connecting the services vertically.

The residential tower faces south with large balconies that are screened by shading, green climbing plants and solar greenhouses. The other facades are accentuated by balconies, ventilated with strong material characteristics and openings that were designed with simplicity according to the lighting needs of the residential spaces.
