FOUR SUSTAINABLE HOUSES TO LIVE IN HARMONY WITH FAMILY AND NATURE

On a large plot of land nestled in the countryside between Milan and Bergamo, surrounded by farmhouses and agricultural landscapes, stands the Houses N project, a residential complex developed within an area of approximately 10,000 square meters. Part of the land is designated for public green spaces and community facilities, while the remainder hosts four independent homes set within a large shared park with a swimming pool.

Three of the houses are identical, designed to accommodate three families from the same extended household. The fourth house is divided into two distinct functions: a one-bedroom apartment for a caretaker and a common area with shared leisure spaces, including a recreation area, indoor pool, sauna, and gym.

DOMESTIC ARCHITECTURE: A HOME DESIGNED AROUND LIGHT

Each home is based on a square floor plan, with a large central patio serving as the heart of the house. This open yet sheltered space brings natural light and ventilation to every room, creating a sense of continuity between inside and outside. The patio, with its internal garden, offers changing views and unexpected perspectives, enriching the everyday living experience.

The house unfolds over two levels. On the ground floor, the living area opens with a covered entrance and includes a living room, kitchen, and a study/guest room with bathroom. The floor also includes a garage with a utility and laundry room, and an outdoor area equipped with a pergola. The upper floor houses the sleeping quarters: two bedrooms with a shared bathroom, a master suite with walk-in closet and private bathroom, and a small additional sitting area, all overlooking the central patio.

SUSTAINABLE BUILDING AND SENSORIAL COMFORT

The houses are built according to sustainable design principles, with timber structures and high-performance natural insulation. This ensures a multi-sensory living comfort: stable temperature, excellent air quality, natural humidity regulation, silence, the scent of wood, and warm surfaces to the touch. Energy efficiency is ensured by a high-performance building envelope, next-generation systems, and renewable sources: photovoltaic panels, heat pumps, mechanical ventilation with heat recovery, and a rainwater harvesting and reuse system.

A DIALOGUE BETWEEN INDOORS AND OUTDOORS

Large windows create a visual and physical connection between the outdoors, the home’s interior, and the central garden, generating a fluid continuity between landscape and architecture. On the façade, glazed openings alternate with stone cladding and vertical wooden slats around the entrance, creating a see-through effect that changes with light and perspective. The pitched roof, reinterpreted in a contemporary key, evokes the form of surrounding farmhouses, in harmony with the rural context.

A PLACE TO GROW, LIVE, AND SHARE

The warm and bright interiors are finished with natural materials, in continuity with the timber structure, and enhanced by daylight entering from every direction. A living environment designed to offer quality, well-being, and beauty, where one can live and grow with family, balancing community and privacy, nature and architecture.
