REBUILD TO SIMPLIFY
The project is located on a plot of land in the province of Varese with the initial intent of renovating an old two-story house and transforming it into two residential units: a two-room apartment on the ground floor and a more spacious one on two levels.
The land extends along the east/west axis and offers a spectacular panoramic view, which is of course a fundamental element of our design. Considering that the cost of a radical renovation would have been excessive for a new construction (with all the constraints and compromises of a renovated building), we decided to completely demolish the existing building and build a new building in wood and green building, with a more compact and elegant volume that includes all the comforts of a contemporary home.
The new proposal includes an entrance to the east, enlarged compared to the original with a parking lot, which leads directly to the entrance of the two units. The first extends over a portion of the ground floor and the entire first floor of the building, while the second is arranged on a single level.
A central strip serves all the spaces of the two residences, which are abundantly illuminated by natural light and directly overlook the surrounding panorama. On the ground floor of the larger unit are the living spaces, while the bedrooms are located on the upper floor. The living room, dining room and master bedroom are oriented towards the west to make the most of the most beautiful view, and open onto large outdoor spaces protected by a steel and wood structure that shades them during the hottest hours without compromising contact with the outside.
The smallest apartment faces south-east, with a small outdoor space but protected by green elements that guarantee privacy and delimit the contact with the road and the car park.
House OM is an example of how the simplicity of volumes can give life to a sustainable architectural project, perfect for welcoming everyday life.
