MOUNTAINS VIEW RESIDENCES
The project involves the renovation and modernization of an existing residential building in Val Vigezzo, in the province of Verbano Cusio Ossola, Piedmont. The intervention focuses on energy efficiency and a complete rethinking of the interior and exterior spaces, restoring residential quality and giving the building a new architectural character.
The immediate surroundings are characterized by the massive presence of the municipal theater, which develops to the west and presents its long side façade to the project area, dominated by the large pitched roof. The cinema obstructs the view towards the west and the peaks that the wide Vigezzo basin reveals beyond the Ossola: Andolla, Weissmies, Lagginhorn. To the north, the view opens towards the Melezzo valley and its peaks and towards the slopes of Colma di Fuori, at the base of which lies the village of Toceno. To the south, the view embraces the ridge of Costa di Fracchia, while from the upper levels the profile of Mount Gridone can be seen to the east.
The basement floor houses the common entrance, storage rooms, and technical areas, as well as a small apartment with direct access to the garden. On the three upper floors, there are three spacious three-room apartments, each consisting of a living room with open kitchen, two bedrooms, and two bathrooms. The living areas open onto sun-exposed terraces, offering wide views of the surrounding mountain landscape.
The new image of the building emerges from the integration of elements of local architecture with contemporary materials and solutions: a stone base, wooden cladding on the upper level, and both the roof and the metal elements finished in a bronze color. The façades, rendered in neutral earth tones, define a unified and material envelope, while loggias and large openings emphasize the dialogue between interior and exterior. The result is a building that reinterprets Alpine building traditions with a simple and contemporary language.
